Mooney Mountain Guides – Guide Training

December 12, 2009 § Leave a comment

Today was the first real cold day of the season. Temps were in the low 20’s and the northwest wind was steady at 25 miles an hour. A great day to be out in the mountains working together with the staff. It is always a good idea to refresh learned skills and it just may happen that new ideas will come on board also. We all met early in the day then climbed up to the icy and rocky slabs on the south face on Welsh. The goal was to review the MMG mountaineering program and our teaching techniques.

The team – Lisa, Richard, Steve, Matt, RJ, and Eric.

Richard an Matt testing the rope system descending the route.
Eric taking RJ for a tour of the upper slabs.
Lisa kicking steps for Steve
Steve looking ready for the icy ramp below. We worked the rope in a variety of ways and practiced travel techniques on ice and snow. Thanks to the team for taking the time out of their schedule to coming out and refresh the skills. Another great day in the mountains.
