Kinsman Notch Ice climbing Conditions Dec 9, 2009

Aubrey and I climb at Kinsman Notch today December 9. We decided to go there due to cold windy conditions in the other notch areas. We found plenty of ice to climb. I would not say Kinsman is in good shape. Kinsman needs another week or so to form into good conditions. I consider good conditions to be protectable ice, thick enough ice so when you climb it remains in shape, and a variety of routes are in condition. Here are a few photos of the main routes.

Aubrey topping out on the Beast. By far this was the best route of the day. We climbed the left side in excellent conditions. The route looked somewhat thin and candled from the base. The climb protected very well and the ice was good. Cold temps may help the ice form this week.

Long term looks very good, see you out there.
