Ice Climbing Conditions Newfound Lake Dec 21, 09

The standard ice routes at Newfound Lake are in good condition. Within a week the routes have fattened up nicely. The one exception is the Red Headwall which looks very thin and has little to no protection. The photos below are of the four main ice routes.

Bloodline NEI 3 – drippy wet climbing at the start.
DuoFold NEI 4 Good condition on lower pillar, thin ice above on the ramp, the ice is good on the final moves at the top.
Pikeline NEI4+ Technical moves with thin ice and little protection above the ice pillar.
Redheadwall NEI 4+ Needs another week to fatten up.
