Black Dike Ice Climb Dec 23, 2009

Mike and I met at the Cannon Mountain tramway area this morning at 7am. Our objective was the Black Dike. It was a cold morning with overcast skies and temps in the single numbers. In our favor was a light wind and there was no one in the parking lot. We gave it a go and started the long approach up the talus. We arrived at the base of the route 45 minutes later. The route looked lean and brittle and the last pitch had a large umbrella type over hang of ice to climb around. Today would be a good one for sure.

I was a cold day even with my extensive clothing system. Mammut products from head to toe – 7 layers to be exact. Thanks to Mammut for great clothing and gear for full on alpine conditions. Thanks to Mike for making the journey from Ohio to climb in NH once again.
