Madeleine Home for the Holidays

Madeleine came home for the Xmas holidays from sunny California. She decided to join Jerry and I and give the ice climbing a go. We went out on Monday the day after the heavy rains, water was flowing over all the routes. The day was warm and wet and the climbing was very good – soft sticky ice – great for day one.
Jerry and Madeleine on the approach to Kinsman Notch Ice Routes.
Madeleine gets her first placements in the ice, with time for a smile.
Her footwork is getting better on this route, she has a good position and great technique.
On our second day the temps reached 10 degrees at noon. We climbed at Rumney to escape the frigid northwest winds. Climbing the ice was much different – brittle, hard and cold. The weather in NH can be variable – the saying is -” if you don’t like the weather in New England wait a minute”.
Thanks Madeleine it was great to meet and climb with you.
