Joe and I met up on Monday morning at the Lynburke Motel to start our three day ice climbing trip at Lake Willoughby. This was Joe’s second ice climbing trip with Mooney Mountain Guides this season. Joe is in training for his upcoming ice trip to Cody Wyoming and the Lake’s long routes would be a good place to prep for this type of climbing trip.
Joe and I enjoying a warm drink on Twenty Below. The temperature’s have been mild this week, in the upper 20’s with no wind. Doesn’t get much better in the Northeast Kingdom.
Joe topping out on Twenty Below, notice Larry’s and Nick’s ropes hanging down the steep Glass Menagerie.
Joe just above the crux headwall on the Last Gent. The routes was in excellent shape. Pitch one was thin and may not last if the sun comes out with these temps. The upper pitches were quite fat with great climbing to be had.
Last Gent – we climbed the center line in the photo which is on the left side of the Amphitheater.
Joe working the moves with his new Dart Crampons and Petzl Nomic’s.
Joe getting ready for the final moves on Mindbender. Great climbing on the entire route with a steep technical finish. Joe and I had great trip to the Lake – lots of good climbing and fun. I look forward to climbing with Joe soon again. Good luck to Joe on the Cody trip I am sure Cody will be an awesome place to climb.
