New Hampshire Ice Climbing Conditions Jan 26-2010

Ice conditions were a bit rough today. The recent monsoon heavily damaged most of the ice routes at Kinsman Notch. We were able to set up a safe rope on Leprecauns in the photo below. Many of the routes had running water with unstable ice looming overhead. One route had collapsed leaving large ice debris on the trail. During the day the rushing waters subsided and the routes showed some signs of recovery with new ice starting to form. Temperature are going down and there is plenty of water to build the routes again. I hope by this weekend there will be more climbable ice.

Good climbing on the central wall at Kinsman Notch.
Pot of Gold area – looked unstable with lots of rushing water.
The aftermath of a two to three inch rain event.
There was ice to be found but in very wet condition.
