Micah & Jen enjoying Springlike Ice Conditions

March 10, 2010 § Leave a comment

Micah and Jen arrived in NH Sunday evening. We had three days (March 8-10) of ice climbing planned at Frankenstein, Mt Willard and Kinsman Notch. Condition were springlike on Monday – Micah and I climbed Standard Route and both the left and right side of Dracula on very soft forgiving ice. Tuesday morning we chose Mt Willard – we approached Hitchcock Gully in sunny but brisk conditions. The route was in great shape with firm snow on the approach and a nice ice runnel up to the rock moves. Micah and Jen enjoyed their first mixed climbing experience on the lower gully. We exited by the East Slabs following a broken trail to the summit. Kinsman was the choice for the third day. We climbed a variety of routes from the lower slabs to the steep pillars. Conditions are good but the ice is changing fast. Spring is on the way better get out on the ice soon.
