Parc National de la Gaspesie

For the past three years I have traveled to the Gaspe Region of Quebec with Middlebury College for the spring break. This year five gals signed up for a backcountry ski adventure in the Chic Choc Mountains. Catherine, Jacqui, Stephanie, Allison and Ali took their week vacation ski touring in this remote area of eastern Canada. These mountains are known for the deep snowpack and excellent spring touring. This year the snowpack was low, about half the normal amount. When we arrived, I knew we had to do some searching for our turns. We kept at it, and by mid week a storm brought a few inches to help us out. Skiing was pretty good, and the glades on Champs de Mar provided the finest smooth turns we found. Enjoy the photos of the Middlebury gals making tracks in the Chic Choc Mountains of Canada.

Jacqui leading the team to Mount Blanche.

Jacqui carving some nice turns on the upper Champs de Mars.

Catherine charging down the fall line in some very soft conditions.

Stephanie carving a nice turn on the steeps of Champs de Mar.

Ali looking very smooth and solid. This was her first season freeing the heel and she skied very well in some tough conditions.

Allison putting down a very nice set of tracks in the glades.

This was another great trip with Middlebury College. We enjoyed a very fine week of steep skiing and ski touring. Thank you Derek and the Middlebury gals for making this year’s trip a success.
