Spring Like Ice Conditions Today

December 12, 2010 § Leave a comment

Friday was a cold day with temps in the mid teens during the afternoon. Justin and I headed over to Newfound to see if we could climb a pitch or two. Conditions looked pretty good from the road but as I climbed Duofold I realized it was quite lean. This is expected for mid December conditions. We climbed Duofold and Bloodline and called it a day.

Newfound from the road.

Justin leading up Bloodline in somewhat thin conditions.
Today it was a different story. Jerry and I met at Frankenstein in the morning. Temps had moderated to the low twenties. It felt like spring conditions. We climbed Standard Route with the pillars finish. The route was in good shape but had an excess of running water down the middle. We found a nice dry line up the left side.

Dracula looked quite good as we walked by. We decided to give this a go.

Jonathan leading the steep crux of Dracula. Conditions were very good, great screws, and soft ice, made the route a delight.
If the rain holds off watch out for these routes to come into shape.
We enjoyed a springlike day at Frankenstein. A nice treat as winter is on its way to NH.
