The Season in Full Swing

February 17, 2011 § Leave a comment

The ice climbing has been absolutely fantastic this week. I have just had two days of climbing at Lake Willoughby. The place was empty with only a couple of parties taking advantage of fat ice conditions, a variety of ice routes and mild temperatures. These fine conditions may have changed dramatically today as we drove through Lyndonville and the temp was 50 at mid afternoon. It looks like a cold streak starting this weekend which may bring the routes back into shape.

Crazy Diamond on Wednesday Feb 16th. The route was in great condition, the final headwall was climbed energetically to the top.

Aubrey topping out on the final headwall.
Great times at the lake.
The crux pitch of the Last Gent. The day warmed up fast, we got a move on and sent the route in under three hours.
Jerry topping over the crux headwall in the morning sun.
The temps warmed up very fast today, our belays were in the shade but we kept moving quickly. No v threads today we enjoyed a walk of through the woods.
Jerry on the final pitch, the climbing was a bit slushy but the screws were secure as they were in shaded spots.
Thanks to Jerry and Aubrey for a couple of fine days at the Lake.
