Yoga for Climbers

May 23, 2011 § Leave a comment

I’ve been a regular student of yoga for the past five years or so. My feeling is that yoga helps with my flexibility, balance, power, alignment, breathing and focus. All of these certainly are needed for rock and ice climbing activities. Arm balances and inversions are two areas of yoga that I highly enjoy. These poses are quite difficult for me! It takes open shoulder, hips and a strong core to succeed. Continuing on with a regular practice is my plan and I hope that some day I will be able to invert into the following poses.

Alyssa in a hand stand – moving into a more advanced pose.

Here she is in a handstand with her back arched into the full scorpion.
Alyssa in another version. This one is the forearm balance (dolphin pose) with the back arched into the scorpion.
Alyssa came over to our house for a private yoga session. Yoga is a great activity for climbers looking to increase the balance, focus, and overall movements up the stone.
Thanks to Alyssa
